Before youBook
Everything you need to know before booking. From who the academy is for and how your background changes your pathway to certification, as well as how the training is structured and what happens after graduation.
If your question is not covered below, please get in touch.
Before you book
04Do I need prior experience?
No. The academy is open to everyone, and your background only changes where you start.
If you hold a Level 3 qualification or an equivalent anatomy background, you join the academy directly.
If you do not, you add Movement Foundations to your booking. It is nine modules covering professional practice, scope of practice, and anatomy, studied and passed before the studio days begin. The six studio days are the same either way.
Prior Reformer class experience is strongly advised. You will also complete a set number of Reformer participation hours alongside your training, building your own movement practice as you develop your teaching.
Not sure which describes you? Tell us what you hold and we will confirm.
Is this academy right for me?
House OF COHR teacher training is designed for people who want to teach Reformer Pilates to a high standard. It suits those ready to put in the work including the pre-learning, six studio days, self-practice, and the teaching development that happens between sessions.
You do not need to be the most experienced person in the room, and you do not need to have taught before but you do need to be open to feedback, willing to practise, and curious.
If you are looking for something quick and low-commitment, this probably is not the right fit but if you are looking for training that will build your teaching and turn you into a capable teacher, it is.
Where does the training take place?
Location varies by intake. Please visit our upcoming intakes page for details of the next available course and where it is being delivered.
What do I need to bring or wear?
All training days involve movement, so wear comfortable clothing you can move freely in. Grip socks are required in line with studio policy, so please make sure you have a pair. There will also be some classroom-based time across the weekends, so we recommend bringing an extra layer to keep comfortable during those sessions.
The training
03How much home study is involved?
The academy is 100 hours, with 40 hours delivered face to face across six in-person training days. The remaining hours are made up of online pre-course learning, self-practice and observation, practice teaching, and final assessment, so there is a significant independent learning element alongside the in-person weekends.
If you take Movement Foundations, its nine modules are a further 40 hours of study before the academy begins, making 140 hours in all.
How am I assessed?
There are two stages of assessment: a multiple choice quiz completed after the pre-learning and before your first studio day, and a final practical assessment where you teach a full class. You have up to 6 months to complete the practical assessment by submitting a filmed class.
What happens if I miss a training day?
Because this is a practical, in-person training, we strongly recommend attending all six training days to get the most from the course. If you do miss part of the training, any catch-up support would be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Fees and payment
02Are there any additional costs?
The course fee covers everything included in the programme. The only additional cost that may apply is a reassessment fee of £150 if you need to retake the final practical assessment. There are no other hidden costs.
Is there a payment plan?
We do not currently offer an in-house payment plan. Klarna is available at checkout for those who would prefer to spread the cost.
After you qualify
03Can I teach straight after graduating?
Yes. On successful completion of the academy, you will receive your House Of COHR Reformer Pilates Teacher Training Certificate of Completion, and will be ready to start teaching.
If you join us without a prior qualification, you will need to complete the Movement Foundations alongside the academy, and we require you to hold Student insurance for the full duration of the course, moving to full Instructor cover once you have completed and passed.
What certificate will I receive?
On successful completion you will receive a Certificate of Completion for the House of COHR Reformer Pilates Teacher Training.
Is the academy recognised?
Yes. House Of COHR Academy is CPD recognised by EMD UK, the national governing body.
